Four men face up to 14 years in prison each after appearing before Blanchardstown District Court on money laundering charges.
rian Grendon (44) of Rowlagh Park, Clondalkin; Joseph Reel (33) of Traynor Crescent, Cretan, Crossmaglen; John Mills (37) of Aishling Hall, Lucan and Declan McDonald (34) of Harelawn Park, Clondalkin each face a single charge under section 7 of the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act 2010.
The charges arise from from a major Garda operation carried out by the Garda National Drug and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) in West Dublin on Wednesday.
Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution in relation to Brian Grendon, Garda Niamh Scully of the GNDOCB said she arrested the accused at Ballyfermot Garda station at 11.13pm on Thursday night.
She subsequently charged him at 12.07am on Friday.
He made no reply after caution.
Garda Scully objected to bail based on the seriousness of the charges before the court.
The court heard a total of €27,725 had been located in envelopes in a plastic bag in a wardrobe during a search of the accused‘s address at Rowlagh Park.
Judge David McHugh remanded Grendon in custody with consent to bail on lodgement of the sum of €5,000.
The case was adjourned until January 27.
Conditions attached to the accused’s bail includes that he sign on at a named garda station and provide a mobile on which he could be contacted by gardai.
A second man to appear before Judge McHugh was 33-year-old Joseph Reel of Traynor Crescent, Cretan, Crossmaglen, Armagh.
Detective Garda Liam Ahern of the GNDOCB said he arrested Reel at Blanchardstown Garda Station for the purposes of charge at 11.11pm on Thursday night.
He was later charged with a single offence contrary to section 7 of the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act 2010.
He was charged at 11.34pm. He made no reply after caution.
The accused was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and the case adjourned until January 26.
Father-of-four John Mills was the third accused called.
Evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given by Garda Susan Plunkett.
She said Mills was arrested for the purpose of charge at 11.37pm on Thursday and gave no reply after caution.
Garda Plunkett objected to bail based on the seriousness of the charges.
The court was told the charge against this accused related to the discovery of €91,000.
Judge McHugh remanded the accused in custody with consent to bail in the sum of €5,000 in cash.
Conditions attached included that he sign on at a named Garda station, provides gardai with a mobile number and has no contact with his three co-defendants.
The court man to appear in court was charged in relation to the discovery of cash totalling €460,455 during a search of his address at Harelawn Park, Clondalkin on Wednesday.
Sgt Leo McDonald said he arrested Declan McDonald at Clondalkin Garda station for the purposes of charge at 11.50pm on Thursday night.
He was subsequently charged but made no reply after caution.
The court heard a total of €432,505 had been found in a suitcase during a search at McDonald’s address while €27,950 was discovered in vacuum sealed bags.
Two vacuum pressers were also seized.
Sgt McDonald objected to bail bailed on the seriousness of the charge before the court.
Granting bail in the sum of €10,000 in cash, Judge McHugh ordered that the accused provide a mobile to gardai, reside at his named address, not apply for any travel documentation and have no contact with his co-accused.
He adjourned the matter to Cloverhill District Court on January 27.
