Armagh senior championship side Killeavy have appointed former Louth senior, U20 and minor manager Wayne Kierans as their first-team boss for 2022.
he Castlebellingham native, who guided Naomh Fionnbarra to junior championship glory in 2015, took charge of his home club, O’Connell’s, towards the end of last season but was unable to save them from demotion in the championship despite improved displays.
This is Kierans’ first step back into management outside his parish since he left the Wee County post at the end of the 2020 campaign following two seasons at the helm.
Closer to home, Dundalk Gaels have appointed Cathal O’Hanlon as their new manager, replacing Malcolm McDonnell in the Ramparts hotseat.
The former Louth forward trained his native Clan na Gael in 2021, after previous stints at the helm of Newtown Blues, Naomh Fionnbarra, Westerns and Clans, of course.
Gaels will play in Division 2 this season, but they remain in the senior championship.
Derek Walsh, who was closely involved with the St Kevin’s/St Michael’s minor team that landed the Fr Murray Cup last year, is the new man in charge of O’Connell’s.
The Castlebellingham charges are back in the intermediate championship for the first time since 2017 and with potential returns to the fold for Cian Doyle and Niall Conlon, the Grove side may be dark horses for another Seamus Flood Cup.
Meanwhile, Wolfe Tones have filled their vacant managerial post with Dromintee men, Kevin Kelly and Brian McManus. The pair were in charge of Westerns for the past two campaigns.
