Legends Of Tomorrow’s Caity Lotz Comments On The Cancellation

Legends of Tomorrow was just cancelled after seven seasons on the CW, meaning it will not get to finish its cliffhanger storyline or have a resolution for its cast. They are taking in stride, however, including Sara Lance actress Caity Lotz, who had this to say on Instagram after the news was announced:

“I’m going to miss it so much. I’m going to miss our amazing cast and crew. But at the same time I recognize how lucky have been to play Sara Lance for this long. Working on Legends has been amazing. It’s been such a journey and I am so endlessly grateful for it, and for you guys. So, thank you. To all the Legends of Tomorrow fans out there, we love you guys so much. And it has been a blast.”

What you may not realize is that Sara Lance is one of the superheroes that has had the most screen time of any modern Marvel or DC character, due to the longevity of the CW’s Arrowverse. Across five different series, she’s had 153 episodes of screen time, which puts her in the all-time greats. While the MCU and DCEU might have higher profile heroes, the truth is, because they’re mostly in blockbuster movies, they’re only appearing for 2-3 hours a time. But these TV series? It’s a whole different story.

Here’s an approximation of the all-time superhero screen time list, best I can figure it:

1. Grant Gustin (Barry Allen, The Flash) – 196 episodes (including crossovers)
2. Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen, Green Arrow) – 187 episodes
3. Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow, Killer Frost) – 181 episodes
4. Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon, Vibe) – 159 episodes
5. Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance, Black Canary) – 157 episodes
6. Caity Lotz (Sara Lance, White Canary) – 153 episodes
7. Melissa Benoist (Kara Danvers, Supergirl) – 139 episodes
8. Chloe Bennett (Daisy Johnson, Quake) – 136 episodes
9. David Harewood (J’onn J’onzz, Martian Manhunter) – 130 episodes
10. Dominic Purcell (Mick Roury, Heatwave) – 100 episodes

This is just counting “superheroes” as obviously other cast members of The Flash, Arrow and Agents of SHIELD would be in here too.

These records may end up standing for a while given that the era of sprawling 20+ episode seasons of CW superhero shows seems like it’s coming to an end. The cancellation of Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman means the original Earth Prime Arrowverse is reduced to pretty much nothing, one more season of The Flash, and technically, Superman and Lois, though that show goes out of its way to rarely reference the other series.

I do hope something is figured out for like an HBO Max special that gives Legends a finale, but that may be a tall order in the current climate.
