The China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance released its monthly data on power batteries for April 2022 on Wednesday. In terms of power battery loading capacity, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) ranked first and BYD ranked second.
Throughout the month of April, China’s power battery output totaled 29.0 GWh, up 124.1% year-on-year. Among them, the output of ternary batteries was 10.3 GWh, accounting for 35.5% of the total, up 53.5% year-on-year. Ferrous lithium phosphate batteries contributed 18.6 GWh, accounting for 64.3% of the total output, with a year-on-year increase of 200.7%. From January to April, the cumulative output of power batteries in China was 129.6 GWh, with a cumulative year-on-year increase of 183.5%.
In terms of loading capacity, April saw the loading capacity of power batteries in China hit 13.3 GWh, up 58.1% year-on-year. Among them, the loading capacity of ternary batteries was 4.4 GWh, and that of ferrous lithium phosphate batteries was 8.9 GWh. From January to April, the cumulative loading capacity of power batteries in China was 64.5 GWh, with a cumulative year-on-year increase of 104.1%.
In April 2022, a total of 34 power battery companies in China’s new energy vehicle market have applied their products to vehicles, six fewer than the same period last year. The top 3, top 5 and top 10 power battery companies installed 10.2GWh, 11.5GWh and 12.7GWh of power batteries, accounting for 77.2%, 86.4% and 96.0% of the total installed capacity respectively.
In April, CATL, BYD, CALB, Gotion Hi-Tech, and Sunwoda ranked among the top five in terms of power battery loading capacity. Among them, CATL ranked first, with a monthly loading capacity of 5.08 GWh, accounting for 38.28%. BYD ranked second with 4.27 GWh of power battery loading, accounting for 32.18%.
In addition, CATL sold 133.41 GWh of lithium-ion batteries in 2021, up 184.82% year-on-year. Among them, the sales volume of power batteries was 116.71 GWh, up 162.56% year-on-year. On Tuesday, CATL said on one investor interaction platform that the company planned to officially release its new Kirin battery in Q2 this year.
